     First commissioned in 1983, the Aegis weapon system cruisers have an
offensive and defensive capability unmatched by any similar weapons system
employed anywhere in the world.  Carrying anti-aircraft, anti-submarine and
anti-ship missile batteries, the Aegis cruisers have a level of firepower that
greatly exceeds the firepower of any WWII battleship.
